Before we dive into my 2019 highlights, I want to say how grateful I truly am for you for being part of this journey and for being here, whether you’ve just joined me and you’re a new reader or you’ve been with me for a long time. I’m so honored and grateful that you share your time with me. I know that your time is your most valuable asset and it is an honor that you would choose to share yours with me.
Here are some of my favorite highlights of 2019 …
1.) I took an even deeper dive this year into understanding the chemical industry in relationship to consumerism and dis-ease and having healthy affordable alternatives. You may know that a lot of things used in personal care products aren’t tested or approved for safety. It’s probably worse than you think though. This has been a really eye-opening process for me.
It’s a common misconception that skin care ingredients must be proven safe and effective before they’re allowed on the market. That’s actually not true. And what’s even worse is the FDA doesn’t actually have the authority in a lot of cases to ban skin care ingredients, even if there’s strong evidence of them being dangerous. So, as an example, you might have heard a lot of the news involving talcum powder and products that contain talcum powder, things like make-up and baby powder are frequently contaminated with asbestos which is linked to cancer. There were a lot of court proceedings that found that one major company knew about this for decades and they’ve now paid millions in damages. There’s still lawsuits coming in for this.There’s actually over 15,000 lawsuits. But here’s the wild part, you would think with all of that happening, this ingredient would be pulled from the shelves, right? But sadly, that is not the case.
When in doubt, definitely do research. I feel that the level of transparency is the antidote to a lot of these problems that we’re seeing in the world today. Young Living is completely dedicated to radical transparency and honesty and I am so honored to be using their products and recommending them. Young Living essential oils are actually adaptogens, which means, when you inhale them, ingest them, use drops of them in your food or simply rub them on your body, they help YOU to adapt to life – extreme weather, chronic stress, lack of sleep, hormone disruption, life changing events, trauma's, lowered immune system and immune pathogens, the list goes on. I've swapped out any and all chemicals for oils and their amazing thieves oil cleaning line. I use young living every day in various forms including but not limited to cleaning products, cosmetics, replacement of OTC meds and to generally enhance my mood! CBD in 2019. I realize CBD is all the rage – and there is strong evidence to support that. Young Living just came out with their essential oil infused CBD this year and let me tell you, there is a reason why it is all the rage- game changer in terms of pain, sleep, inflammation, hormones, emotional stability, FOCUS and calm!
2.) My favorite powerhouse supplements of 2019. Perfect supplements remain my favorite paleo/keto supplements such as their desiccated liver (super food for killer energy), collagen (several biological functions, such as provide structural support in connective tissue, muscle, and skin) , bone broth (liquid gold as far as minerals and vitamins and gut healing), aquatic greens (detox and energy) and matchinga (natural energy, elevate mood, detox and amino acids).
In 2019, I have stumbled on to my new absolute favorite supplements when it comes to cleaning up parasites, biofilm, lyme and lyme co-infections, retroviruses, liver/gallbladder and anything bowel. Microbe Formulas products are amazing and I am having tons of clinical success with clients. Clients can even see my client parasite specimens in my office!
3.) My favorite books of 2019. The one minute cure, hydrogen peroxide; medical miracle, the hungry brain, the paleo cardiologist, The Desire Map (each year at this time to look at my goals with soul) and Earthing (get the Earthing book for free with each bed grounding mat purchase)
4.) New biohacking products. Ultimate Longevity's grounding bed mat (and travel mat). Hands down the best investment I've made in 2019. You're sleep and biochemistry will be forever changed, I can strongly attest to that. Get the Earthing book for free with each bed mat purchase. I've also been studying up on Food Grade H202 therapy and implementing it into my daily regiment with life changing results. I will report more on this in 2020. (Always follow the directions for dilution and work with a skilled practitioner)
5.) My favorite documentaries/movies. The Devil We Know (Netflix), Heal (netflix), the Magic Pill (netflix) and No Safe Spaces (theater) (how identity politics and the suppression of free speech are spreading into every part of society and threatening to divide America).
7.) I spent more quality time with family, friends and loved ones in 2019. Lots of laughter and off our phones!
8.) My new home. I worked on a lot of outdoors projects this year such as the construction of a large 24×72 organic fenced in garden, two new stunning 50+ ton boulder walls and strategic management of my wood lot, cleaning up dead trees, and splitting and stacking to use for my wood stove.
9.) Strength training. Squats and kettle bells were my new addition in 2019.
10.) My own health journey. I continue strict paleo/keto (9+ years now), I went full carnivore (no plants what so-ever, only meat and organs) for 2 solid months (that was one of my absolute highlights of 2019 from a biohackers perspective, tons of learning, and healing and I took a lot of heat from others), took a deeper dive into clearing up pathogens and worked deeper into liver and gallbladder detox for myself.
11.) Spiritual highlights. This year has also been an emotional and mental journey into stoicism for me. I’ve read a lot of Ryan Holiday’s work, the Daily Stoic, and a couple of quotes that have kept reoccurring for me this year are amor fati and memento mori. Amor fati means to love your fate or love what is and memento mori means remember that you will die. These, I believe are opposite sides of the same coin. The idea of memento mori, reminds us that we’re in the process of dying every day, to stay PRESENT and not to take life too seriously, but also look at what is the impact we want to have with our life and what are the important things that are actually going to matter at the end.
The idea of amor fati is to love your fate or to love what is, to me means truly love and be grateful for what is. And that’s easy to do when life is wonderful. That’s really hard to do when bad things happen that we can’t explain or we lose someone close to us or a relationship falls apart or anything painful happens. And amor fati speaks to the idea that we can’t control the outcome. And by trying to, and by holding onto that desire to control everything that happens, we’re actually only creating stress in our own lives and that still doesn’t make us any more likely to be able to control it. We’ve all had experiences where something that seemed horrible at a time ended up leading to or becoming the impetus for something incredible. Amor fati is just a reminder, a very centering reminder to love what is, to love every part of the journey. And it doesn’t mean not never improve, it just means to truly be grateful and joyful for the moment that one is always in.
