
Making this homemade real food fruit snack for you and your children is a great way to get an array of nutrients while eating a fruity snack packed with nutrition from grass fed gelatin, coconut oil, fresh fruit juice and pureed fruits. These gluten-free fruit snacks are the perfect thing to pack as a treat in school lunches, they make a wonderful after-school snack, a breakfast snack and are a great homemade Birthday party and Halloween candy.
Gelatin sourced from grass fed animals is an extremely nutrient dense superfood.
High quality gelatin helps to:
- heal and seal the gut
- improve digestion
- promote ease of sleep and restful sleep
- tighten loose skin
- improve joint issues
- improve cellulite
- boost growth of skin, hair and nails
- 1 cup water divided
- 8 Tablespoons (1/2 cup) gelatin powder
- ½ cup fresh squeezed juice. I use a mix of lemon and orange.
- ¼ cup grade B maple syrup or raw honey
- 1 cup tart cherry juice
- ⅓ cup melted coconut oil
- ½ cup of pureed fruit ( I usually use berries) or applesauce (optional)
- Molds - gingerbread boy, daisy bites, dinosaurs, assorted shapes, daisy mold, all these cute molds. You can also just use an oiled (coconut oil) glass dish pan and cut the fruit snacks with a knife once they have gelled.
- The pureed fruit makes the pieces more dense. You can see both in the picture.
- Note: Be sure to have all ingredients ready and set before beginning as you’ll need to work quickly once you start.
- Have your chart cherry juice poured and set aside.
- Squeeze fruit for juice. Set aside.
- Puree your fruit, in the food processor works quickest and set aside.
- Have your maple syrup or raw honey ready to go.
- Boil ½ cup water.
- Note: these steps need to be followed in this precise order for the recipe to turn out.
- Place ½ cup room temp/cool water in a medium sized bowl.
- Add ½ cup gelatin powder to room temp/cool water and stir quickly to create a paste.
- Quickly add the ½ cup boiling water and stir again briskly. This should form a stir-able liquid.
- Add your juice, puree and honey or syrup and mix well.
- Note: Have your mold(s) setting on a plate, baking sheet or other hard surface first and have your freezer shelf cleared and ready to set your mold on.
- Very quickly pour the mixture in to molds and then carefully move to fridge to allow to firm in the molds in the freezer for about 1 hour.
- Take out of freezer and pop out of molds, let set out for a minute and enjoy!
- Store in airtight container for up to 2 weeks in the fridge.
