
It's a common occurrence now, you, a family member, co-worker or friend has a positive test (and there are many layers to this), now what do you do? The majority of those who test positive are not winding up in the hospital, so this post is not for an emergency situation. I'm getting asked this often, so I wanted to give you some Naturopathic strategies to help optimize your immunity, since we know that the immune system is built.
Your immune system is incredible! Give your body the raw materials it needs and it will continue to fight cancers, viruses and pathogenic bacteria. This is all based on your own personal terrain and the materials you offer it. But due to lifestyle, poor nutrition, toxin build-up, stress, metals, chemicals, parasites and chemicals, these can weaken the immune system over time.
The greatest immunologist is INSIDE you, it doesn't come from a shot, a mask, a microchip or drugs. Immune systems are not fabricated, they cannot be injected. Strong immunity is BUILT by YOU offering it repairing materials.

Avoid
- Sugar
- Grains
- Dairy
- Alcohol
- Standard American “sick foods” that simply promote inflammation and feed viral activity.
- Campbells soups. Process enriched noodles (sugar), fake vitamins, potato starch (sugar), flavoring (neurotoxins), high fructose corn syrup (refined concentrated sugar), mechanically separated chicken (huh?!!) to name a few!
- Crackers. Unbleached enriched flour (pure sugar), fake vitamins and soybean oil, rancid oil and congests the systems, and is full on inflammatory and stays in your system for many months!
- Ensure “protein” drinks. The first four ingredients are sugar, processed dairy and inflammatory oils!

- Betaine HCL. Guys, getting your pH in your stomach correct – is critical, read that again. The whole purpose of the stomach is to be an “acid bath” so that pathogens cannot survive. This is also your absorption factor for all of your essential vitamins, minerals and other co-factors.
Vitamin D3.
(4,000-10,000 IU's per day – higher end if positive)
Note: D3 is better than D2 (synthetic), and combined with Vitamin K2 complements the calcium absorption-enhancing action of D3 by helping ensure calcium is directed to bones, rather than soft tissues like arteries.
Mounting research suggests vitamin D deficiency may actually be a major cause of influenza. People with the lowest vitamin D levels report having significantly more colds or cases of the flu. (Source) Vitamin D3 is produced in the body by sunlight and regulates the expression of over 2,000 genes, including those of the immune system. Recent research shows that low vitamin D3 levels are linked to higher rates of cold, flu and respiratory infections. Many physicians believe that current recommended daily amounts of vitamin D are far too low, and that 2,000 rather than 200-400 units per day is a better choice. If you have a cold or the flu, take 2,000 units per kilogram of body weight once a day for three days. I do recommend testing your vitamin D levels.

You need Vitamin K2 + Magnesium to help you absorb Vitamin D.
If you want to get it across the brain need lipoic acid as well.
3. Zinc.
(15-50 mg per day – higher end if positive)
Zinc supports immune function and has an antiviral effect. It works best when taken at the first sign of illness. Zinc may lessen the symptoms of the cold virus but excessive amounts aren’t good for you. Zinc pills and sprays do not seem to be effective. Take 50–100 milligrams of zinc daily for prevention and while having cold and flu symptoms.
4. *Vitamin C.
(5,000-10,000 mg per day- higher end if positive) and Vitamin P (Quercetin)
Not store bought OJ or Emergen-C! The first two ingredients are pure sugar – that will work against your immune system!
Vitamin C helps with immune system function and boosts white blood cells. I recommend 5-10 grams of vitamin C spread out over waking hours. If you are under a lot of stress, it may also be a good idea to give yourself a loading dose of 5 grams in half a glass of water. If this gives you loose bowels, cut the dose back. Eating vitamin C rich foods like acerola cherry powder, camu camu, bell peppers & citrus fruits can help too. I have a whole page of nutrients including SUPERFOODS here.
Dr. Suzanne Humphries {MD, Author, Lecturer, and Board-Certified in Internal Medicine & Nephrology, as seen on The Truth About Vaccines}, is known for her research on the importance of Vitamin C and how it helps to heal the body. Here is an excellent video of her conclusions – game changer!
The RDA for men is 90 mg/day and for women is 75 mg/day. When scientists attempted to change the RDA of vitamin C to 200 a day, it was rejected by the authorities according to Dr. Humphries.
“I make none of my own vitamin C and I am told that I only need 75 mg/day or 1.2 mg/kg/day. This is a gross underestimation of what we should take every day. The science behind this estimate is flawed.” – Dr. Humphries states.
When a person develops an illness (ANY illness), the vitamin C reserves can be depleted very quickly. Dr. Humphries stresses that the RDA levels for vitamin C are to prevent scurvy, NOT promote optimal health.
“Different parts of our bodies need different amounts of vitamin C. The adrenal and the eye need very high amounts, for instance, muscle is somewhere in between.”
The need for vitamin C can be divided into categories; anti-oxidant, anti-histamine and enzyme co-factor.
Vitamin C acts as an electron donor and fixes the damage that is done by the oxidants in our environment, such as, car fumes, environmental sprays or from any poison. Vitamin C also acts as an anti-histamine, and protects people from pollen and allergies.
Dr. Humphries states that she has found this in clinical practice and evidence in medical literature. She continues that vitamin C, “Is a co-factor for many enzymes. Some of them make collagen, neurotransmitters, hormones and carnitine.”
L-lipoic Acid to help get all these nutrients across the blood brain barrier. It's the most active form of alpha-lipoic acid to support healthy nerve and brain function.
5. *Strong Probiotics.
(2-5 megaspore per day – higher end if positive) (10-20 billion per day – if test positive closer to 100-200billion CFU per day)

10. Use Essential Oils. One of My FAVORITE Ways to help Optimize the Immune System.
For optimizing the immune system, I HIGHLY recommend thieves and frankincense essential oils. Diffuse, or use topically. TIP: I love putting a few drops of thieves or frankincense in my palms and making a “scent tent” with my hands and breathing in deeply. Thieves is a powerhouse blend of cinnamon, clove, lemon, eucalyptus and rosemary! 11. Quality of Food Matters
- Avoid sugar and high amounts of carbohydrates and starches, as they suppress the immune system
